RIVA DEBUTS AT THE INTERNATIONAL ISTANBUL SHOP&MILES BOAT SHOW,STREGTHENING ITS PRESENCE IN TURKEY

For the very first time Riva took part in the International Istanbul Shop&Miles Boat Show held in the Turkish city from 20th to 25th October. The Boat Show, now in its twenty-ninth year, was an opportunity for Riva to strengthen its presence on the growing Turkish market. During the course of the first year of their working relationship, Ultramar Istanbul has opened the doors of a continuously growing market up to Riva brand yachts. AMERICAN PREMIERE OF DUCHESSA 92’ AT THE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW IN FT. LAUDERDALE
Riva presented Riva 92’ Duchessa, the highly refined model which has been added to the megayachtsegment, to the American market for the first time at the 51st International Boat Show in Ft. Lauderdale.
Curved, racy lines harmoniously design the profile of this yacht, whose 28 metres enclose all the elegance of Riva style, as always set in a unique, original design solution. Mauro Micheli and his team at Officina Italiana Design, in association with Riva’s Technical Office, have once again designed a yacht with truly winning lines.
The Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show marked a key moment for both the Ferretti Group and its development on the Pan-American market. Indeed, the Group has set itself the aim of further strengthening its presence in the northern part of the continent and Latin America within the sphere of its reorganisation and relaunch plan. In the 2009-2010 nautical year, these areas already represented about 20% of the Group’s consolidated turnover, and are a solid market share. There have also been major increases in some segments, amongst which that of South America.
Moreover, Riva 92’ Duchessa was the leading figure during a VIP Event held at the Ferretti Group Showroom in Fort Lauderdale on 28th October. Organised by the Ferretti Group for clients and dealers, it gave them the opportunity to admire the yacht during its American market première.

NATIONAL PREMIERE OF “AQUARIVA GUCCI” AT THE GENOA BOAT SHOW

Riva presented the Italian market with some of its iconic models - Rivarama, Rivale, Sportriva 56’ and 68’ Ego Super - during the 50th International Boat Show in Genoa held from 2nd to 10th October. It also organised the Italian première of exclusive modelAquariva Gucci during the same event.

The new model is fruit of the exclusive partnership between two historical Italian firms, Riva and Gucci which, in association with Officina Italiana Design, created an exclusive version of the original model (created in the year 2000 based on a project developed by Officina Italiana Design), now a classic on the pleasure boating scene. The design and shape of the new model have remained the same, whilst the style and decor have been customised by Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini. The hull and details in fibreglass have been painted in Gucci white; the mahogany, signature of the Riva brand and painted in the traditional way with twenty hands of varnish, of which ten applied brush, and ten sprayed, has been used extensively on many parts of the yacht; the coverings on the seat and sundeck are waterproof fabric customised with the Guccissima print, icon of the Florentine brand; the plimsoll line is painted in the typical Gucci green-red-green colour match, and the windscreen produced in crystal with a green hue.
The project bears witness to Riva’s wish to continue combining the refined, elegant, timeless beauty of its models with a continuous quest for innovation and partners par excellence.
The fleet on display in Genoa included Rivarama, the 44 footer named “the most refined floating suite”; Rivale, yacht with a strong, gritty character, whilst still both elegant and refined; Sportriva 56’ featuring the concepts of a flybridge in the sporty lines of an open; and 68’ Ego Super absolute synthesis between design, comfort, performance and reliability.
“This year too we have been extremely proud to display our top models to the public on occasion of the most important of the national boating appointments”, declared Paola Procopio, Riva Brand Manager. “Each and every model is fruit of scrupulous research and painstaking care taken over detail, which makes our products - always a symbol for refined, elegant, timeless beauty - unique”.

AQUARIVA BY MARC NEWSON DISEMBARKS AT THE 20TH MONACO YACHT SHOW

European première for new Riva yacht after the resounding success of the New York presentation.

Riva, a Ferretti Group brand, and Monaco Boat Service (MBS), exclusive dealer for Monaco and France for the prestigious Italian nautical brand, are pleased to announce the European première of Aquariva by Marc Newson. The yacht was presented at the 20th Monaco Yacht Show, following the resounding success of the world première held at the Gagosian Gallery in New York on 14th September 2010.

The project has been developed through a partnership between Riva, Officina Italiana Design and Marc Newson, and provides for a limited edition of just 22 units. Aquariva by Marc Newson was presented on the 22nd September 2010 during the course of a gala evening held in the historical MBS tunnel at the port of Monaco, in the presence of Marc Newson and with the patronage of Her Royal Highness, Princess Carolina of Hannover.

The yacht will be on display at MBS for the entire duration of the Monaco Yacht Show, until the 25th September.

Newson's design for the Aquariva vessel is unique in its conception, as well as the materials chosen. A wood-like, textile-based laminate (phenolic composite) was used for the deck area and instrument panel. This material was developed in the first half of the 20th century, and was a precursor to fibreglass. While having an ostensibly organic feel and aesthetic, it is significantly more durable than wood. To give the exterior a more high tech look, Newson utilized anodized aluminium, a material not generally associated with boats; this lightweight material is used in lieu of stainless steel and chrome brass, yet remains contextual among Riva’s glamour and classical design.

Riva, a Ferretti Group brand, and Monaco Boat Service, exclusive dealer for Monaco and France for the prestigious Italian nautical brand, celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the Musée Océanographique de Monaco with an exclusive gala dinner devoted to Clients and guests in the halls of the Museum, opened especially for the occasion.

The aquariums of the Musée Océanographique de Monaco, an out and out temple both to the sea and of the attention paid to biodiversity and ecology, bring together over 4000 species of fish and 200 families of invertebrates. The Musée celebrated its one hundredth anniversary in March 2010, being opened on 29th March 1910 by Prince Albert I, the current Prince’s great-great-grandfather.

Moreover, the evening provided for a private guided visit through Damien Hirst’s “Cornucopia” exhibition, featuring over 60 works of art produced by the English artist, famous for his irreverent artwork centred on the complex relationship between life and death, as well as representing specimens of the sea and other animals. Thus, besides the famous shark in formaldehyde, visitors to the museum were also able to admire a sheep cut in half and suspended in a cube of glass, also filled with formaldehyde, as well as “The Forgiveness”, a steel structure measuring 9 metres in length, with 3502 butterflies.

Moreover, as of the evening of the 21st September, and for the entire duration of the Monaco Yacht Show (22nd-25th September), the Monaco Boat Service has invited prestigious jewellery brand Vhernier to display its pieces of goldsmith art at the Musée Océanographique, in the Riva lounge located on the Monaco Boat Service wharf, and on board Yacht Xarifa, a three mast, period sailboat belonging to the Traglio family.

MARC NEWSON: TRANSPORT

As a kid obsessed with designing and making things, post-war Italian design was a huge source of inspiration. I was amazed by the seamless ability of designers and industry to produce every conceivable type of industrial product, from furniture to automobiles. My own career has undoubtedly been influenced by the Italians’ impact on so many areas of design.

Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce “Transport,” a thematic exhibition by Marc Newson that

brings together for the first time all of his major designs and realized products for transport and human locomotion since 1999.
“Transport” will premiere Aquariva by Marc Newson, Newson’s reinterpretation of the famous leisure speedboats produced by the iconic Italian boatmaker Riva. Drawing on the contemporary Aquariva and its predecessor of the 1960s, the glamorous Aquarama, Newson has infused the classic model with his streamlined and forward-looking style using ideas imported from his innovative work in automotive and aerospace design. These include the use of phenolic textile
composite a durable laminate made from linen and resin that made its first appearance in Newson’s furniture designs in 2007 -- in place of traditional mahogany for the deck; anodized aluminum for discreet hooks, cleats, handles, and holds; a streamlined instrument panel, and a wrap-around laminated windscreen made from a single sheet of glass. The modified interior – upholstered in the collector’s choice of punchy colors including a vivid turquoise as an update of
the original tone used for the Aquarama -- includes separate driver and passenger seats, and a functional dining area. Aquariva by Marc Newson, custom-built in the original Riva boatyards, is produced in an edition of 22 and available exclusively through Gagosian Gallery.
Situating Aquariva by Marc Newson within the breadth and reach of Newson’s enduring obsession with human and mechanical locomotion, “Transport” explores the full range of his vehicle design. Some have been commissioned by leading international corporations specializing in automotive, aerospace, and nautical design, others designed for pure pleasure. From MN Special (2008), a lightweight carbon fiber bicycle designed for Biomega, to EADS Astrium Space Plane prototype (2007) designed for commercial space tourism; from the mirror-like Nickel
Surfboard (2006) designed for competitive tow-in surfing, to Kelvin40 (2003), a small, idiosyncratic jet plane named after the main character in Tarkovsky’s Solaris and commissioned by Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain; from the “convertible” Zvezdochka trainer for Nike (2004), designed for general use by Russian cosmonauts in the International Space Station and named after the fifth Russian dog in space, to the endearing Ford 021C urban concept car (1999),
Newson’s imagination reveals a sense of playfulness and fun behind the requisite rigor of the modern design mind.
Newson approaches design as an experimental exercise in extreme structure and advanced technologies, combined with a highly tactile and exacting exploration of materials, processes, and skills. As an industrial designer, his reach is broad and diverse, from concept jets and cars to watches, footwear, jewelry, restaurants, and aircraft interiors. Since the outset of his career, he has also produced beautifully crafted, limited-edition furniture, including the iconic Lockheed Lounge (1986). In a world where the distinctions between art and design are becoming increasingly blurred Newson is a trailblazer, having pursued parallel activities in exclusive and
mass production for more than twenty years.
Marc Newson was born in Sydney, Australia in 1963 and studied sculpture and jewelry design at Sydney College of the Arts. Parallel to his career as an industrial designer, he has exhibited limited edition works and projects in galleries and public institutions since 1986, including Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris (1995, 2004); Powerhouse Museum, Sydney (2001); the Groninger Museum, Netherlands (2004); and London Design Museum (2004-2005).
Newson had his first major exhibition with Gagosian New York in 2007, followed by a second exhibition in Gagosian London the following year. He is a Royal Designer for Industry in the UK and currently Creative Director of Qantas Airways. Earlier this year he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Sydney. An extensive monograph on his work is forthcoming from Taschen.

63’ VERTIGO LANDS IN EGYPT

Last Sunday June 27th 2010 the open model 63’ Vertigo, produced by Riva, a brand of the Ferretti Group, was delivered in Egypt, at Alexandria.

It was the very first delivery of this model in the Egyptian territory.
63’ Vertigo, the biggest model currently built at the Riva shipyard located in Sarnico, the historical headquarter on the shores of lake Iseo, has gained a great success in Egypt thanks to the promotional activity of the exclusive dealer, Synergy Trading, since 2008 the sole distributor for Egypt of the prestigious Italian brand. In fact, a second unit of the 63’ Vertigo is about to be delivered in the Egyptian waters.

Elegance, harmony, style. These are the most suitable adjectives for describing the Open 63’ Vertigo, a yacht featuring elegance and design, different to its predecessors. 63’ Vertigo has aristocratic lines barely conceal its spirited character.
The harmoniously slender profile is emphasised by the roll-bar design, creating a large open area to the rear of the cockpit, accentuating its gritty spirit. This Open, which optimises the space available and guarantees total comfort, features a range of new solutions, such as the comfortable sofa running on two tracks towards the table to its left, transforming the cockpit into an elegant outdoor salon. Moreover, the elegant, aerodynamic hard-top provides full sun protection, plus natural ventilation thanks to openings on both sides and above, ideal for holydays in the Mediterranean.

AQUARIVA BY MARC NEWSON

In a highly anticipated collaboration, Marc Newson has partnered with Riva and their official designers, Officina Italiana Design, to reinterpret the 'Aquariva' speedboat. 'Aquariva by Marc Newson' will be launched as a limited edition of 22 units in September 2010, available worldwide through Gagosian Gallery.

"As a kid obsessed with designing and making things, post-war Italian design was a huge source of inspiration. I was amazed by the seamless ability of designers and industry to produce every conceivable type of industrial product, from furniture to automobiles. My own career has undoubtedly been influenced by the Italians' ability to impact so many areas of design," says Marc Newson. "That influence is fully evident in 'Aquariva by Marc Newson', my first nautical design project for the iconic Italian brand.”

Respecting the DNA of the original project created by Officina Italiana Design was paramount to Newson's design for Aquariva. With this in mind, some of the changes he makes are truly innovative: the re-imagining of the transom (at the stern), the wrap-around, laminated glass windscreen, the split cabin door entry, the functionality of the lounge and dining area, and the re-introduction of separate driver and passenger seats. Aquariva by Marc Newson's simplicity and functionality are what make the boat truly extraordinary. The end product of Newson's design is an uprated Riva complete with a bow thruster and state-of-the-art electronic transmission.

"Aquariva by Marc Newson is a natural extension of the artist’s work with planes and automobiles. The result is a brilliant blend of form and function, looking back to La Dolce Vita of the 1950's and 1960's and forward to the latest trends in nautical design," says Larry Gagosian. "I can't wait until it is on the water."

Australian born Newson's aesthetic vision and uncompromising originality have won him the highest international acclaim. Working across a broad spectrum of disciplines, Newson has created furniture, interiors, timepieces, objects of all sorts, and sculptural work, as well as major projects in the transportation industry, particularly aviation and aerospace. Appointed a "Royal Designer for Industry" in the United Kingdom, Newson has received numerous design awards and academic honours. He has had solo exhibitions at major museums and galleries, with work featured in the permanent collections of the world's most renowned museums including the Musée National d'Art Moderne, centre Pompidou, Paris, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. In 2005, Newson was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

"We are proud that Marc Newson has chosen the Aquariva, which we first created in 2001, as the vessel in which to express his vision for nautical design. His design will carry on Aquariva's legacy as a timeless classic, continuing a thread that connects past to present, and tradition to innovation", Officina Italiana Design comments.

“Officina Italiana Design and Marc Newson represent the best in international design. It is an honour for me to witness this partnership, one I am firmly convinced will both win great approbation and mark the history of design,” affirmed Norberto Ferretti, Chairman of both Ferretti Group and Riva.
